Spirit is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Putnam and Todd Snead as brass co-caption heads for the 2010 season. 

“Both Andy and Todd did an outstanding job as part of the 2009 Spirit brass staff and will bring continuity and a wide variety of experience to the brass program,” states Executive Director Joel Vincent.  

Andy is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Music Education at The University of Michigan, where he is also part of the advanced conducting studio.  He is the former Director of Bands at Whitnall High School near Milwaukee, Wisconsin winning four State Marching Band Championships during his tenure.  Andy has taught at the World Class level for nine seasons.  He has worked as music arranger for many high schools, universities and drum corps including the Madison Scouts, Glassmen, and Capitol Sound. Before joining the Spirit staff, Andy served on the instructional staff at Glassmen and Madison Scouts.

Todd is Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music Education at The University of Minnesota and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Music Education at Georgia State University. Todd is a former performing member of BLAST and is the former Assistant Director of bands at Judson High School in San Antonio, TX.   He has provided professional development in community engagement with the Phoenix Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Charleston Symphony. Prior to his tenure at Spirit Todd taught World Class drum corps at the Madison Scouts and Glassmen.

The 2010 season will mark the sixth season Andy and Todd have collaborated as brass teachers.
