Auditions Continue after a Successful First Camp
The Spirit of Atlanta 2012 Audition Camp held this past weekend at New Manchester High School was a huge success. The number of people auditioning for the corps more than doubled since last year, with the biggest areas of growth being in the brass and color guard. A demanding rehearsal schedule concluded with all sections performing before a huge audience of alumni, parents, and fans Sunday afternoon. Each section proudly demonstrated the poise, strength, and passion expected of Spirit and its members. The audience was brought to tears with stirring performances of Tara’s Theme, Salvation is Created and Georgia by the massive horn line.
SOA would like to thank the administration of NMHS and director Damien Gaiters for being such gracious and accommodating hosts. A very special thanks also goes out to the 25+ volunteers who showed up to help drive airport shuttles, prepare food, and register the army of young men and women who auditioned.
There are still performance positions available in the corps, and it’s not too late to submit an application for SOA 2012 (register now). Auditions for brass, percussion, and conductors will continue at the Callback Camp, January 13 – 15. Anyone interested in auditioning for color guard needs to contact Color Caption Head Jude Boughton and submit a video for consideration to attend the final rehearsal camp May 4 – 6.
