Bass Instructor

Mike is a percussion instructor and arranger living and working in the DC metropolitan area. He marched bass drum for 5 years with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from 2004-2008, and served as percussion section leader in 2007-08. After aging out, he taught the bass line at the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps, an Open Class corps from Wayne, NJ, in 2009 and 2010. Mike currently teaches the bass line at George Mason Indoor Percussion, an Open Class WGI line. Additionally, Mike works with several high school drum lines in the MD/VA area. He has his BA in English and his Masters in Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is currently in his third year of teaching English and Video Production at a high school in MD. 

Mike believes in a holistic approach to the marching arts, where the visual element is viewed with the same attention to detail as the musical element, and finds any and every opportunity to draw parallels between the marching arts and other relevant areas of the members' expertise. He believes in teaching the students to be self-aware and self-reflective performers and future educators, and he is very excited to be joining the staff at Spirit of Atlanta for the 2012 season!
