Mikey Cowan
Visual Instructor
Mikey Cowan was introduced to the marching arts at a young age.Watching drum corps videos sparked this interest. His marching career began in the drum line at Logan County High School in Russellville, KY. From there he attended Western Kentucky University, and was a member of the quad line for two years. In 2000 he marched quads at Cincinnati Glory Drum & Bugle Corps, receiving the DCI Div. III Bronze medal. Mikey's marching endevours continued when he became a member of Eklipse Indoor Percussion Ensemble where he marched quads in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 Eklipse won the Independent Open gold medal at the WGI World Championships, and received the silver medal in 2002.
Mikey’s drum corps teaching career began in 2003 when he was a member of the visual staff at the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle. He spent three seasons with the Scouts, 2003, 2004, and 2006. In 2007 Mikey joined the visual staff at the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, moving up to Visual Co-Caption head in 2008. In 2009, he was Visual Caption Head at the Glassmen helping the Corps to a top ten finish at DCI Finals. Mikey has worked with numerous high schools and indoor programs in KY, IN, FL and TN. He is currently the visual instructor with Kentucky state finalist band South Oldham High School. Since 2009, Mikey has taken time off from Drum Corps to return to school to finish his degree in Music Education. He is a member of the Percussion studio at the University of Louisville. Mikey is extremely excited to be working with Spirit of Atlanta for the 2012 season, and is looking forward to building on the successes of the past season. He currently resides in New Albany, IN with his lovely girlfriend Carrie, and their two dogs Betty and Walnut, and cat Sally.
