Bob Smith
Visual Consultant
Bob Smith is no stranger to the drum corps activity, having spent over 20 years as a marching instructor, visual caption head, consultant and drill designer for drum corps and marching bands. Most notably, Bob was marching instructor and Visual Caption Head for the Phantom Regiment (1987-1997 and 2000-2004), where he helped the corps win the field marching and GE visual captions numerous times, including the 1996 DCI World Championships. As such, he worked with some of the great pageantry masterminds: DCI Hall of Fame members Michael Cesario and John Brazale, as well as noted drill designers Greg Cesario, John Sanchez and Tony Hall. Bob also taught at Tar Heel Sound and most recently served as a visual consultant for the Colts, where he worked with Spirit of Atlanta’s current Visual Designer Jeremy Hunt and Guard Caption Head Jude Boughton.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Illinois State University and a Masters in Education from National Louis University. He is currently a mathematics teacher and varsity girls' and boys' tennis coach at Leyden Community High School in Chicago, Illinois where he has been awarded Northern Illinois Conference Tennis Coach of the Year ten times since 1989. In 2010, Bob was inducted into the Illinois Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. This will be Bob’s second year on staff at Spirit of Atlanta.
