Christopher LaPointe

Visual Instructor
Christopher LaPointe is an English professor at a community college in Hampton, Va., where he currently resides. He holds a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Christopher Newport University and an MA in English Literature from Old Dominion University. He is planning to start his Ph.D. studies in the autumn of 2012 in American Studies.
This is his second year as a member of the visual staff of the Spirit of Atlanta. He started his drum corps career with the Glassmen in 2000 as a euphonium player. Over the next three years, he became the section leader and incidental soloist. After his age-out season of 2002 with the Glassmen, he took a position teaching the Madison Scouts. With the Scouts, he was exposed to a variety of alternative teaching styles, which both enlightened and invigorated him. He stayed with the Scouts until 2006 as a member of their visual staff.
The reason for his abrupt departure and sudden return to the Drum Corps activity is another form of corps. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mongolia for two years, and remained in country for an additional year, where he honed his teaching skills and revitalized his zest for life.
