Dr. Todd Snead
Executive Director
Dr. Snead is currently in his fourth year with Spirit of Atlanta, having previously served as Corps Director (2011), Brass Co-Caption Head (2010), and as a brass instructor (2009). Prior to his tenure at Spirit, Dr. Snead served as a brass instructor at Glassmen (2007) and Madison Scouts (2003-2006). Dr. Snead holds a Bachelor of Music from Texas Tech University, a Master of Music from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from Georgia State University. Dr. Snead has also studied at the Kodály Institute of Texas (University of North Texas) and the Conductor's Workshop at the Brevard Music Center.
Dr. Snead has worked with students at all levels of the music education system. He began his career in 1999 as Assistant Director of Bands at Judson High School in Converse, TX, where his bands received superior ratings during his tenure. In 2003, Dr. Snead was appointed Education Coordinator for The Phoenix Symphony, where he served as the Project Coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program, an after-school music program for inner-city elementary students. His collaborative work with The Phoenix Symphony and Arizona State University's Herberger College of Fine Arts earned him the 2005 Collegiate Community Partnership Award. During his graduate studies at Georgia State University, Dr. Snead served as a Site Coordinator for nationally-recognized Sound Learning Program, a music education partnership with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He was also the Project Coordinator for CONNECT, an interdisciplinary arts education program at Drew Charter School. Most recently, Dr. Snead served as Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In addition to his teaching experiences, Dr. Snead has performed professionally with the North American touring cast of the Tony and Emmy award-winning musical Blast!
Dr. Snead serves as a teacher, clinician, and adjudicator throughout much of the United States, has provided professional development for musicians in the Atlanta and Charleston Symphony Orchestras, and is published in Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music. Originally from Texas, Dr. Snead now calls Atlanta home and is proud to be working with Spirit of Atlanta.
